European Trophy Tout Terrain – Cross Country Rally Raid 2013
26 -31 August 2013
Viladoms, Verhoven, Knuiman on the podium of a tough Serres Rally
Serres Rally 2013 has ended! It was an unforgettable week, full of emotions! The happiness of success was shaded under “our” Angelo’s loss.
Angelo loved Serres Rally and was part of our Team. From now on, Serres Rally will be dedicated to him,And there will be a special Trophy “Rally Spirit” dedicated to his name:
To Angelo!
A full power race, five days and 1400kms, for eighty bikes, quads and ten cars, in a high-level competition. Every rider gave his own “battle”, to win the overall classification, to win his class or category or just to finish the most difficult Serres Rally to date!
Ten special stages, included large terrain variety. Gravel, dirt roads, old army tarmac roads, sand, rocks, trails, paths, off-road, forest, rivers, enduro uphills, top of the mountains, composed the amazing scenery of that unique race. After every single exhausting day, the swimming pool alongside the paddock area was the best way for the racers to relax!
At the top fight, some “Dakar” riders had a perfect training for the big upcoming event. Spaniard Jordi Viladoms, on his enduro Gas Gas 450 bike, was the big winner of Serres Rally 2013 (3 stages winner). The “flying Dutchman” Frans Verhoeven riding his heavy Rally bike Yamaha WR 450 Rally, was 2nd overall after recovering first days’ loosing time.
For the 3rd place, there was a big battle between Italian Andrea Cosentino – KTM 450 EXC and Henk Knuiman from Holland – KTM 450 EXC (2 stages winner!) until the very last special stage of the race. The 3rd place trophy went to the Dutchman!
Pedro Bianchi Prata from Portugal with his “hand made” Husqvarna TE449 Rally, lost too much time by some minor mistakes, and stayed in the 5th place!6th overall was Nicolas Cardonas with Yamaha WR 450 from Venezuela!
Bad Luck for 3 Italian riders: Last year’s winner, Christian Pastori retired after a minor injury on his leg toe, losing the chance to defend his title – the same for Sandro Calesini, who was leading in Rally Pro Series classification. Alessandro Fadda broke his hand and we would like to wish all a full and quick recovery.
For the C category (450+) Marco Gandini from Italy – KTM 500 was the winner, in front of Austrian “giant” Johannes Lukas with KTM 950 Super Enduro! In the 3rd place was the 1st Greek rider, an old Veteran from Drama, Symeon Michailidis on a KTM 530.
Despite his injury, Dutch rider Edwin Straver with KTM EXC 250 F won the small -250cc- category. Another Greek rider, Agamemnon Patras, was the quads winner on his Yamaha Raptor 700!
Women’s class winner was Chara Chatzidoukaki on her Kawasaki KFX 700, and C2 class winner (1K +625cc) was Rees Robinson from England with a KTM Rally 690.
Renti Sina from Albania and Dolly Wittberger from Austria, were the car winners with a Toyota Land Cruiser as Josef Machacek from Czech, on his Buggy, had technical problems.
The class of the organization was excellent, leaving positive thoughts to all competitors, who departed Serres with the nicest impressions and feelings.
On behalf of Serres Rally Organizing Team we want to thank all participants, and we would like to promise an even better race for 2014!
An International Six Days Enduro Rally, + a Cross Country route! Two different tracks for every kind of riders! The new dates already announced 30 August – 6 September 2014.
We are waiting for you to come back! With even greater smiles and more power!
